Finally, a full-stop to the never-ending discussion and rumours because Lewis Hamilton has officially renewed his contract with Mercedes yesterday.
The Brit was recently linked with a potential move over to Ferrari but he has now squashed all of it by signing a new deal that is worth approximately £100million yesterday.
“Re-signing for Mercedes is what I always intended to do – and there was never really a doubt in my mind that I would,” said the 30-year old as quoted from BBC.
“I have enjoyed my time at Mercedes so much so it was 1000% in my mind that this is where I wanted to be, provided we could come to an agreement.”
Hamilton also made history by becoming the highest paid sportsman hailing from the United Kingdom, topping the list of top 20 athletes in Forbes, ahead of English footballer Wayne Rooney, Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy and even Welshman Gareth Bale.
According to the contract, he will be staying in Mercedes for three more years and has received the privilege to freely engage personal endorsement deal with companies both in and outside of Formula One. This means that he could earn more than double of his basic salary.
Hamilton is currently on a run to bag his third world championship title this year and is only five years short of equalizing Ayrton Senna’s record for the amount of championship wins.
