National top seed Chong Wei Feng is still devastated over the fact that he has been excluded from the 2015 Jakarta World Championships, though he has no choice but to move on from the incident and focus on the upcoming Australian Open Super Series.
“I have to forget it and pay full attention towards the Australian Open. The most important thing for me right now is to qualify myself in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics,” said Wei Feng as quoted from Harian Metro.
Wei Feng met Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) Technical Director, Morten Frost yesterday to discuss on his future tournament participation, in order to ensure a good chance for him to qualify for the Olympics.
“However, we did not talk about the Jakarta World Championships because the decision had been finalized. We only touched on the other championships, the ones I will take part in.”
But for now, the 27 year-old is determined to advance to the main draw of the Australian Open as he will be starting in the qualifying rounds.
“I think there is a chance to get in the main draw because in my opening match I will be facing Japan’s Riichi Takeshita and then I will play against Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus,” he added.
After the Australian Open, Wei Feng will be joining the national badminton squad to prepare for the upcoming Singapore SEA Games.
