Malaysian squash players Nicol David and Delia Arnold have both progressed into the semi finals of the prestigious British Open after claiming crucial wins in their last eight ties yesterday.
Nicol took on home favourite Sarah-Jane Perry in what was an intense battle, though the world number one eventually seized a
11-6, 11-8, 12-10 in merely 47 minutes.
“Sarah-Jane was a tough opponent to play, but I played well, I came out strong at the right time,” said eight-time world champion Nicol.
Meanwhile, Delia Arnold’s fantastic run in the tournament continued after she dispatched world number two Raneem El Weilely of Egypt in a five set thriller.
Delia lost the first set 4-11, before claiming the second one 16-14. The Egyptian star restored her lead by winning the third set, though Delia was absolutely brilliant in the fourth set, winning 11-5.
The decider was rather close, and Raneem even had match point at one part, with a 10-9 lead. Nonetheless, Delia pulled off s stunning comeback by winning the set 12-10 to book her spot in the semis.
Nicol will next face England’s Laura Massaro, while Delia will be going up against France’s Nour El Sherbini.
