Italian Open: Nadal drifts into quarters

Rafael Nadal has advanced to the quarter finals of the Italian Open after downing American John Isner in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The Spaniard, who holds the record for most titles in the Italian Open with seven wins, presented an almost flawless display and ended up being the first player to ever break Isner’s serve in a period of a month.  He did not face a single break point and won almost all of his first-service points.

“I was almost perfect,” Nadal told Sky Sports Italia.

“It was a good match, I’m satisfied.”

The seventh seed will be taking on Stan Wawrinka in the quarters, after the Swiss defeated Frenchman Dominic Thien 7-6(3), 6-4.
