Perak has been selected as the host state for the 2018 SUKMA, with Johor being handed the edition that comes right after that in 2020.
This decision was confirmed by Youth and Sports minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, after a meeting with relevant parties yesterday.
“In the meeting today we agreed that Perak will host the SUKMA after Sarawak, followed by Johor in 2020,” Khairy told reporters yesterday.
Sarawak will be the host for the 18th edition next year from July 22 to 31.
A total of 24 sports, comprising of 19 compulsory sports and 5 optional sports, will be competed in the three main locations, which are Kuching, Miri and Sibu.
The plethora of sports listed are aquatics, weightlifting, badminton, cycling, football, gymnastics, hockey, karate, lawn bowls, archery, shooting, athletics, pencak silat, sailing, sepak takraw, squash, taekwondo, tenpin bowling, wushu, volleyball, golf, petanque, tennis and boxing.
“Miri and Sibu will each host two sports while the rest of the sports will be held in Kuching and its surrounding areas like Kota Semarahan and Petrajaya.”
