Italian Open: Kyrgios suffers first round exit

Feliciano Lopez has set his foot into the second round of the Italian Open after humbling Nick Kyrgios in straight sets.

The Australian young gun, whom had previously downed Swiss Roger Federer in the Madrid Masters, was unable to level with the left-handed Spaniard in the Roman clay court and was beaten 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The thirteenth seed will next face Croat Viktor Troicki, following his victory over Australian top seed Bernard Tomic.

Tomic served five double faults and missed out on 12 aces in the intense battle before concluding his defeat 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4).
