Hanis Nadiah determined to shine during SEA Games

Hanis Nadiah Onn, who plays as a striker for the national women’s hockey team, has set her own mission of helping the team retain their SEA Games gold medal which they won in Myanmar two years ago.

Hanis had earned the opportunity to play in the second round of the Women’s World Hockey League (WHL) in New Delhi, India recently, after her international debut last June. Her excellent skills were reckoned again in India, where she scored four goals.

The 19 year-old is hoping to be selected one again as she is determined to thrive in what could be her maiden SEA Games appearance in Singapore.

“I will do my best if I get chosen,” she was quoted as saying by Kosmo.

“I scored four goals in India, therefore I want to be able to score more goals in Singapore. Even though there are only three teams competing, the task is still tough, though it won’t be impossible to win if we work as a team.

“We have our own aims as a team and if we manage to win a gold medal, it would definitely be a great present for the nation and my family. Moreover, the SEA Games will be a platform for us to review our weaknesses so that we can brush-up our skills for the Junior Asia Cup, which will take place later.
