BWF reject Chong Wei’s wildcard appeal

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has rejected the official wild card request for Malaysian player Lee Chong Wei to take part in the Jakarta World Championships, according the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary, Ng Chin Chai.

Chong Wei was not eligible to participate in the tournament by merit as his ranking had slid down to no.46, below top qualifiers Chong Wei Feng and Zulfadli Zulkiffli, whom are ranked no.31 and no.41 respectively. Unless BAM are willing to drop one of the two players in order for Chong Wei to participate, then there is no hope for an appearance in the world meet.

BAM were evidently disappointed with the decision, claiming that BWF did not provide adequate explanation on their decision-making process.

However, Chong Wei is currently focusing to triumph in the upcoming Sudirman Cup in Dongguan, China.
