Badminton men’s double duo Hoon Thien How and Lim Khim Wah are through to the semi-finals of the New Zealand Open after securing a victory over third seeds Li Junhui, Liu Yuchen of China.
The Malaysian pair won the first comfortably, sealing it at 21-15 to put them in the driving seat. But their Chinese opponents bounced back and clinched the next set 21-14, dragging the match into a decider.
In the third set though, Thien How-Kim Wah showcased their superiority by rallying through the game to eventually win it 21-14 and book their spot in the last eight.
Both individuals will next face seventh seed Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the semi-finals today. Both men are also the sole representatives of Malaysia, after the exits of compatriot Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong, alongside men’s singles player Arif Latif and Goh Soon Huat.
