17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer clinched his 200th win on clay after demolishing Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen in the second round of the Istanbul Open.
The world number two only needed an hour to dispatch the Finn with a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 victory to book a spot in the last eight.
Federer is making his inaugural appearance in Turkey, at against Nieminen yesterday, he did not face a single break point, claiming nine aces with his opponent having none.
He will next face Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who thrashed 6th seed Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 6-3. The victory also makes Federer the seventh active player to reach the 200 clay-court wins milestone.
