Johor DT’s brand new signing Alhaji Kamara has only been in Malaysia for almost a month, but he is already impressed with a myriad of elements involving the Southern Tigers, including the quality of local players within the squad.
In an exclusive interview with FourthOfficial.com, the Sierra Leone forward heaped praises on his Malaysian teammates, and reserved a special mention for skipper Safiq Rahim; whom he claims is good enough to play competitive football in Europe.
“Safiq Rahim is an amazing player, I would say. The level of quality present in him is solid and to me, he is good enough to play in Europe,” Alhaji said.
“But the entire team consists of good footballers and more importantly, good individuals. Everyone jokes around and laughs all the time, so it’s a nice feeling to be around such people.”
The 21 year-old previously plied his trade with IFK Norrköping in Sweden, before making the loan move over to Johor DT earlier this month. The Southern Tigers’ management claimed that they were monitoring his progress for a reasonable amount of time and that they were convinced in his ability to spearhead their attack.
Since his arrival, they have only lost a single league game, and the man himself has opened his account with the club, scoring a goal in their 3-1 win over Kelantan. But his impact on the club isn’t a one-way relationship. Alhaji pointed out three reasons as to why he’s loving life in JDT.
“Firstly, the Johor Crown Prince’s vision for the club is immense and it actually played a part in convincing me to make this move. Then you have the fantastic facilities available for all players.
“But the fans have been brilliant as well, from day one. I really appreciate the support, because they need to know that their relentless chants always gives me the energy to perform at my best.”
While Alhaji undoubtedly has the potential to shine and leave an impact on Malaysian football, he won’t be the first Sierra Leone footballer to do so. Lamin Conteh is a Sierra Leone footballer who is widely remembered for his stints with Perlis FA and Alhaji is hoping to follow in his footsteps.
“I never got the chance to watch him play, but everyone talks highly about him. He is one of the greatest Sierra Leone players, so hopefully I can emulate his achievements,” he added.
