China’s Lin Dan clinched gold in the men’s singles event at the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan, defending the title he won last year.
Following the withdrawal of top seed Chen Long, the number three seed knocked off his compatriot Tian Houwei in a 50-minute match. The first round was a close battle but Lin managed to win it 21-19. He then went on to clinch an easy 21-8 win in the second round.
South Koreans Lee Yong-Dae and Yoo Yeon-Seong seized the men’s doubles title after downing Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in an intense three-set match.
The pair stumbled in the first round 18-21 but proved their dominance by producing a good comeback in the second and third round, winning 24-22, 21-19.
For the women’s doubles section, fourth seed Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang bowed out after 36th seed Ma Jin and Tang Yuanting secureda 21-12 win in both sets.
Indonesian duo Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir claimed their title for mixed doubles by beating defending champions Chau Hoi Wah and Lee Chun Hei of Hong Kong, 21-16, 21-15.
