Thailand Open: Malaysian bowlers dominate Masters final

Malaysian bowlers shined impeccably at the 41st MWA Singha Thailand International Open as bowlers Muhammad Rafiq and Nora Lyana went on to dominate the Masters stepladder finals.

Rafiq clinched the Men’s Open title, narrowly edging over teammate Muhammad Nur Aiman in the final. He was initially defeated in the first game by a score of 197-`185, before eventually powering his way through the second game to win 256-216 and secure the title.

“The two lanes we are on were quite different and I struggled in the first game,” Muhd Rafiq told abf-online.

“But when the lanes were drier in the second game, I was well matched up to the condition.

“I knew Aiman would be a tough opponent but I believed that if I can make good shots, I had a good chance of beating him. It has been fantastic for me in the two championships that I have competed in and I’m now looking forward to the Malaysian Open next month to add more trophies to my collection.”

On the other side of the news, 18 year-old Nora Lyana only needed one game to trash Malaysian third seed Esther Cheah with a 247-214 victory to clinch her first international open title.

Nora, who accumulated 1,305 pins in the six-game final round, started off poorly against her senior, but managed to bounce back when she gained more confidence after having three strikes.
