Former world number one duo Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat nailed a sponsorship deal worth RM 2 million, in their bid for a third successive appearance at the Olympic Games.
The former All-England men’s doubles champions who recently departed from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), have resumed their partnership and are eyeing to give their very last shot to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.
The sponsorship deal worth RM2 million over a span of two years with property developer Seri Mutiara Development Sdn Bhd, will also cover their coaching and training expenses with former internationals Lee Wan Wah and Chew Choon Eng.
27 year old Tan Boon Heong who was known for his powerful smashes revealed that his desire for the sport has not vanished despite his age.
“As professionals, we need to be disciplined and committed. Organising everything on our own without BAM’s assistance will be a tall order but we hope to face the task,” Boon Heong was quoted as saying to Bernama.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong will next be in action at the Australian Open Superseries from May 26th to the 31st.
They have made two Olympics appearance in their playing career where they reached the semi-finals of the 2012 London Olympics and the quarter finals of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
