National badminton player Lee Chong Wei has returned to Malaysia following the much awaited BWF hearing on his doping scandal over the weekend.
The former world number one arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning, though his agony isn’t exactly over yet as Chong Wei will have not wait for three more weeks before discovering the verdict of his case.
The hearing was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Amsterdam’s airport, though the four man panel did not arrive to any conclusion after eight hours.
“I know everyone is eager to find out the verdict, but it appears that we’ve got to wait. The panel will make a decision within three weeks,” he told reporters.
“I’m happy with how the hearing went, so now we wait. Either way, I’m so grateful for all the love and support I’ve received from all Malaysians throughout this tough times,” he added.
Should the panel find him guilty, he could face suspension for up to two years from the sport and Chong Wei has already indicated that he would retire permanently, if he’s given maximum punishment.
