Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: Malaysia secure comeback victory against India

Malaysia bounced back after two defeats in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup by securing a massive comeback win against India earlier today.

Tai Beng Hai’s men were solid in the first quarter as they restricted the movements of the Indian squad before Faizal Saari broke the deadlock with a low drag flick through a penalty corner pass, on the 17th minute.

However, Malaysia’s 1-0 lead did not last as long as national goal keeper S. Kumar was beaten by Rupinder Pal Singh. The Indian star netted a low drag flick into the Malaysian goal on the 20th minute.

19 year-old Haziq Samsul then restored Malaysia’s lead as he reacted quickly in netting a goal on the 35th minute when India’s goalkeeper failed to save an attempt and fell flat.

Malaysia’s 2-1 lead, which lasted for 16 minutes came to an end when Indian skipper Rupinder Singh scored another goal on the 51st minute.

Muhammad Shahrun Nabil then came to the rescue when he scored a goal on the 59th minute; allowing Malaysia to clinch their first win of the tournament.

Malaysia will next face Korea who were beaten 2-5 by Australia earlier today.
