Pahang sign Malaysian-Australian prodigy Matt Davies

Pahang FA have completed the paperwork required to secure the signature of Matthew Davies from A-League side, Perth Glory.

The 20 year-old right back, who is known for his exceptional potential, is also a half-Malaysian and even possesses a Malaysian passport. Matt broke through the FFA Center of Excellence in 2011 as a talented teenager, before being snapped up by Perth Glory in 2013.

He started out with their youth team before being integrated into the first team set-up, making 16 appearances throughout his time there.

Matt’s mother and grandparents were both born in Sabah, though his mother eventually left for Australia at a very young age. Upon discovering his Malaysian heritage, Matt’s player manager Tony Rallis, who also brought Joel Chianese to Sabah FA, acted quickly to facilitate all bureaucratic processes for him to obtain a Malaysian passport.

It now appears that he has finally received his break with a move Pahang, with speculations even suggesting that he would be assimilated into the SEA Games squad as well, considering that Matt is now available for national team selection.

His arrival means that Malaysia will now possess three Eurasian players in their ranks, following in the footsteps of Brendan Gan and Junior Eldstal; whose moves were assisted by ex-Sabah star, Scott Ollerenshaw.

Should his International Transfer Certificate be processed in time, Matt will available for the Super League game this weekend.
