MSL Matchday Six: Terengganu win East Coast derby as PDRM go top

Terengganu proved their mettle as they held on tight to secure a pivotal 2-1 victory over Kelantan, in what was a hugely entertaining East Coast derby. Both sides couldn’t break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, but five minutes into the second half, Ismail Faruqi fired home to put Terengganu 1-0. Badri Radzi, who has been linked with a move away from Kota Bharu, then made it 1-1, courtesy of a fine finish on the 75th minute. But just three minutes later, Shahrin Sapien sent the home crowd into raptures by scoring to restore their lead, and ultimately seize a major victory as well as valuable three points.

Chad Souza fired a hat-rick as Perak ended Felda United’s unbeaten start to the season by downing them 4-1 at the Selayang Stadium earlier today. They went ahead on the 5th minute mark courtesy of Chad, before Edward Wilson equalized two minutes into the second half. But three minutes later, Chad netted Perak’s second goal of the game before Namkung Woong made it 3-0 on the 80th minute mark. But there was still time for Chad to net his third goal of the night, to seal a momentous 4-1 win that puts them second on the table.

Meanwhile, Johor DT got back to winning ways after securing a comeback victory against ATM on their home turf. Though Patito Rodriguez was handed a debut from the get go, ATM broke the deadlock in the first half, as Jerry Palacios found home to put the away side ahead. But Amri Yahya equalized on the half hour’s mark to make it 1-1 at half time. After the break, Safiq Rahim continued his excellent form by scoring on the 57th minute, which eventually turned out to be the winning goal to move JDT into fourth spot on the table.

At the same time, Selangor continued their stellar form by claiming another set of three points against Sime Darby, thanks to a 3-2 win earlier today. Andik Vermansyah scored the first goal on the 54th minute, before Hazwan Bakri made it 2-0 merely five minutes later. Nemanja Vidakovic reduced the deficit to make it 2-1 though Rob Cornthwaite eventually restored Selangor’s two-goal lead with a finish. While Sime Darby did score a late one to make it 3-2, the Red Giants eventually held on the claim a crucial win.

PDRM moved to the top of the table after clinching a 1-0 win over Sarawak on Friday night. The Crocs had a myriad of opportunities throughout the game, as PDRM struggled to impose themselves, despite boasting the likes of Ali Ashfaq and Mohamadou Sumareh in their starting line-up. But Dramane Traore ended up being their hero as he found the back of the net in the first half, to score a goal that ended up being the all-important winning goal.

Pahang and LionsXII also contested a hugely entertaining affair that saw Zainal Abidin’s men emerge as 3-2 victors. Faris Ramli silenced the home fans by putting LionsXII ahead on the 15th minute, though Matias Conti was quick to equalize just 15 minutes later. Gopinathan and Azidan Sarudin netted Pahang’s second and third goals on the 65th minute and 77th minute respectively, to hand them a 3-1 lead. While Khairul Nizam did pull one back on the 93rd minute, Pahang held on to secure the win.
