Williams Formula One driver Felipe Massa believes that Ferrari’s usage of tyres played a big part in them being able to triumph at the recent Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.
Sebastian Vettel secured a victory at the Sepang International Circuit last weekend, putting an end to their barren spell of not winning a Grand Prix since 2013.
But as far as Massa is concerned, the performance of their Pirelli compounds in the heat, gave them a major advantage in Malaysia, not the sheer pace of their vehicle.
“They had a much better car and they have much better pace,” said Massa to Autosport.
“They use the tyres in the much better way. In Malaysia, everything was related to the tyres. I think it’s the tyres because why were they not pole position in the qualifying [if the Ferrari was fastest]? Well, they almost were in the rain but in the dry they were slower.
