National women’s doubles duo Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei are the nation’s only representatives at the quarters of the ongoing Malaysian Open in Bukit Jalil.
The Malaysian duo edged past Indonesian pair Anggia Shitta Awanda and Mahdewikstirani Ni Ketut with a scrappy 21-19, 18-21, 21-18 victory, which took them one hour and 6 minutes accomplish.
“We were under pressure before the match but everything went smoothly in the first set,” Vivian Hoo was quoted as saying by Bernama.
“From the very beginning we did not set any target to reach the semis or final. Our focus was to win every match we played.”
The Malaysian pair will next face China’s brand new pair Huan Xia and Tian Qing and Vivian thinks that could be a disadvantage for the Chinese.
“They are playing as a team for the first time, so we have a chance because their combination may not have blended in that well yet,” she said.
