National swimming star Alwyn Tan set a new national record in the men’s 50m Freestyle after clocking a timing of 21.17 seconds at the Malaysian Open Swimming Championships
The 17 year-old added the new record to his bag of achievements after erasing Selangor’s Foo Jian Beng’s record of 23.42 seconds, which was set in 2011.
“I am really happy. I just feel that I have accomplished something that I really wanted to. I missed this like three or four times already and this is the first time I managed to do it,” Alwyn was quoted as saying by Bernama.
This victory also allows him to officially book his spot in the national squad for the upcoming SEA Games in Singapore.
Kuala Lumpur’s Keith Lim clocked a timing of a close 23.74 seconds to secure the runner-up placing and Selangor’s Chan Jie with 23.98 seconds for the bronze.
After four days, the Selangor team are ahead on the leaderboard with 11 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals.
