National sprinter Izzuddin Yahya seals SEA Games qualification

National 100m sprinter Mohd Izzuddin Yahya has officially joined the national SEA Games squad after passing the qualifying time at the recent Terengganu Open.

The 29 year-old was incredibly impressive by clocking his personal best time of 10.48 seconds, to effectively confirm his spot in the SEA Games squad.

This now means that the upcoming Malaysia Athletics Open will mainly be a training platform for Izzudin, as other athletes will be using it as their final chance to pass the qualification mark in order to get into the SEA Games squad.

“We (MAU) hope that the number of athletes can increase after the Malaysia Open this weekend. We want more athletes to qualify for the SEA Games,”  Malaysian Athletics Union (MAU) President Datuk Karim Ibrahim.

Judging by how the situation is right now, Malaysian Athletics Union technical director Robert J Ballard isn’t confident of being able to secure a high number of gold medal in the SEA Games this year.

That being said, he also claimed that athletes would be able to use the upcoming edition as a stepping stone for the 2017 SEA Games, which will be hosted in Kuala Lumpur.
