National mixed doubles shuttlers Lai Pei Jing and Tan Aik Quan are through to the second round of the Yonex Indian Open after upsetting sixth seeds Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Vanessa Neo yesterday.
The Malaysian duo went into the match as underdogs, but 36 minutes later, they had shocked the crowd by clinching a comfortable win over the Singaporean counterpart, beating them 21-12, 21-17.
As a result of the win, they will next take on Indonesia’s Edi Subaktiar and Glordia Widjaja in the second round.
Meanwhile, women’s doubles shuttlers Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei are also through to the second round after demolishing Indonesia’s Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah and Gebby Ristiyani Imawan.
They completed a 21-15, 21-19 win to book a second round tie against Hong Kong’s Tse Ying Suet and Chan Kaka Tsz Ka.
