Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost Hansen revealed that there will be no targets for the national men’s singles players as far as the Malaysian Open’s main draw is concerned.
Malaysia has struggled when it comes men’s singles in recent times, with Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s suspension and the failure of back-up players in delivering results; something that Morten Frost believes will affect their chances in the Malaysian Open.
“It would not be a disaster if there are no men’s singles player in the main draw because we are not in our best form.” Morten Frost told Utusan Malaysia.
Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Arif Latif and Zulfadli Zulkifli will be competing in the qualifiers of the competition on the 31st of March, and only a victory will give them a spot in the main draw. Daren, who recently won the Polish Open title, appears to be Malaysia’s best bet in this tournament.
