Djokovic beats Federer to clinch BNP Paribas Open title

World number one Novak Djokovic battled past Roger Federer in the BNP Paribas Open final, to claim his fourth title at Indian Wells.

Djokovic edged Federer with a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 victory to wrap up the 2 hour 17 minute clash. The world’s top two male players, who renewed their rivalry for the 38th time, fought hard, until Djokovic won the decider set to seal his 50th career title.

“Novak did well to sustain the lead for most of the match; I think he found an extra gear in the end,” Federer told the official ATP Tour website.

This was the perfect revenge for Djokovic, after Federer’s straight sets victory over the Serb at the Dubai Open final. The victory also allowed Djokovic to match Federer’s record of four titles at Indian Wells.

Meanwhile, Romania’s Simona Halep won the women’s singles final after beating Jelena Jankovic 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 to ultimately secure the BNP Paribas Open title.
