Andy Murray slams Odesnik for doping scandal

Andy Murray believes that Wayne Odesnik’s 15-year ban for doping, is ultimately a good call in terms of justice as well as the protection of the sport as a whole.

Odesnik, who is ranked 267th in the world, tested positive for several banned substances, including steroids during tests that were conducted between December 17 and January 12.

This marks the second time that the 29 year-old has tested positive for banned substances. In 2010, he was given a 2-year ban, after being caught of possessing human growth hormone (HGH) in his baggage, by the Australian customs officials.

“It is the end of his career and he can’t even come on site to events or coach. That is a good thing,” Andy Murray told BBC Sport

“He is a cheat and it is good for everyone in tennis he is dealt with in the right way.”

After the news went public, Odesnik immediately announced his retirement from the sport. In a statement, he claimed that the results turned out to be positive because of a contaminated over-the-counter-supplement that he unknowingly consumed.

“I was immediately heartbroken as words could not describe my shock and disappointment,” he said.

“Being the most tested American tennis player on tour, I would never knowingly have taken any chance of consuming a banned substance.”
