Sunderland announce appointment of Dick Advocaat as head coach

Sunderland have announced the appointment of Dutch manager Dick Advocaat as their new interim head coach till the end of the season.

The English side sacked Gus Poyet recently after a disastrous run of one victory in 12 league games, they immediately swooped for the ex-PSV boss, who will undoubtedly be tasked with keeping them in the Premier League.

“Dick has an incredible CV and vast experience of managing at the very highest level. We have one aim only now – to climb the table and everyone is fully focused on the task ahead of us,” Sunderland AFC chairman Ellis Short told the club’s official website.

Dick Advocaat’s first challenge will be their match against West Ham this weekend and the 67 year-old is already looking forward to the task at hand.

“Sunderland is a big club and I am very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. We must now concentrate on Saturday as a priority and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.

The experienced Dutchman is best known for his time in Rangers, where he led them to five trophies within a span of four years.
