BNP Paribas Open: Andy Murray edges into fourth round

World number 4 Andy Murrayis through to the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open after clinching a win over Philipp Kohlschreiber

Murray took two hours to edge over Kohlschreiber, beating him 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in what was a nervy match. Murray secured the first set in just 25 minutes, winning 6-1, but Kohlschreiber bounced to claim the second set, though Murray eventually held on to seize the decider and clinch the tie.

“In the second set there was a break point 3-3, it gave him confidence, but in the third set I started dictating points again and getting good height on the ball.” said Murray.

“I feel I can serve better, serve smarter than I did today.”

“When I was getting myself in position to dictate, I wasn’t letting up, I kept moving him around. I maybe didn’t hit a lot of winners but there were a lot of forced errors and in conditions like this that’s important.”

The victory allowed Murray to set up a fourth round clash against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, who defeated Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 6-4.
