V Shem-Wee Kiong’s improvements not good enough – Pang Cheh Chang

National badminton coach Pang Cheh Chang believes that the performance of men’s doubles shuttlers Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong have been impressive in recent weeks, though they are severely lacking the element of consistency.

The Malaysian duo impressed at the Swiss Open last week, making it to the final before being defeated by China’s Cai Yun and Lu Kai in an edgy 19-21, 21-14, 17-21 defeat.

But as far as Pang is concerned, he thinks they need to be more consistent and avoid silly mistakes.

“In the final, they didn’t manage to handle the game in the last few points when they made easy mistakes and that was what caused their defeat to Cai Yin and Lu Kai,” he told Kosmo.

“The opportunity to win was high especially at the opening set where they managed to dominate the game but their usual mistakes in the third set that cost the game.

“But either way, for them to reach the final itself was good enough since V Shem only recently recovered from a knee injury,” he added.

The duo will next participate in the Malaysian Open, which will be held from the 31st of March to the 5th of April. They will face China’s Chai Biao and Hong Wei in the opening round.
