National men’s doubles shuttlers Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong have been defeated by China’s Yun Cai and Kai Lu in the final of the 2015 Swiss Open Championship.
Their hopes of salvaging some pride for Malaysia after a disastrous showing in the All England championship, came to a crushing end as they lost the scrappy encounter 21-19, 14-21, 21-17
The Malaysian duo, who were also seeking their first title of the year, put up a strong fight in the opening set, with the score even being 19-19 at one point, though the Chinese pair eventually won it.
In the second set though, the V Shem-Wee Kiong showed resilience by winning it with a decent margin though the Chinese side eventually clinched the third set to triumph in the final.
Despite the defeat, both men will go home with their heads held high as this is their first ever final appearance since V Shem’s return from a knee injury.
