Swiss Open: Zulfadli Zulkifli through to third round

National independent shuttler Zulfadli Zulklifli is the only Malaysian left in the Swiss Open after Liew Daren and Arif Latif were both sent packing in the second round.

Zulfadli secured a second round victory over France’s Lucas Claerbout, taking only 30 minutes to clinch a 21-8, 21-10 win. The victory allowed him to set up a third round tie against 17 year-old Indonesian, Christie Jonatan, who defeated Japan’s Riichi Takeshita 21-12, 21-17.

Meanwhile, national shuttler Liew Daren was sent packing by India’s Anand Pawar after a 13-21, 22-20, 21-16 defeat. Daren managed to pull through an easy victory in the opening set before Anand fough back to defeat him in the following two sets, and thus secure the win.

Similarly, Malaysia’s Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif was also trashed by Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, losing 21-10, 14-5.
