Grigor Dimitrov beats Roger Federer in exhibition match

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov managed to bypass Roger Federer to secure his first ever victory over the 17-time grand slam champion at an exhibition match that was held in conjunction with the World Tennis Day

Dimitrov defeated Federer with an edgy 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 score. The 23 year-old who managed to easily overcome Federer in the first set, failed to break him in the second but fought hard to secure the third set and clinch victory.

“I couldn’t believe how he was playing, how similar he looked to me,” Federer was quoted as saying in Newsday.

“Oh my God, it’s crazy. But you can see the differences clearly now. He’s had his own great career.”

Meanwhile, Dimitrov was delighted with the victory, claiming that it was a crucial one for him, despite it merely being an exhibition match.

“Of course, it was just an exhibition, but it was really just more important to get out there and embrace the atmosphere for not only me, but also the opponent I’m playing against,” said Dimitrov.

“At the end of the day, I’m playing against Roger and I have so much respect for him. I felt like I had a lot of fun.”
