National men’s doubles shuttler Tan Boon Heong has revealed the reason behind his resignation from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), claiming that his inability to find a partner influenced the decision.
Boon Heong used to partner Koo Kien Keat, but after his departure from BAM, Boon Heong has never been able to find a suitable partner to replicate the exact combination and understanding he once had with Kien Keat.
He was recently partnered with Hoon Thien How and Ow Yao Han, though none of the combinations could produce results on the international platform.
“I was disappointed because I didn’t have a suitable partner anymore. I didn’t know who I’d partner if I had stayed in BAM,” Boon Heong told Berita Harian.
“That is why I made the decision to leave.”
That being said, there is now a possibility for Boon Heong to resume his partnership with Kien Keat, and there are already offers for sponsors to revive the partnership, that was once so successful.
Besides clinching the gold medal in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, both individuals also secured the 2007 All England Championship title.
