Malaysian hockey captain Azlan Misron aims to set new record

Malaysian hockey captain Azlan Misron is aiming to set a new Malaysian hockey record with the World League set to be held in January 2015.

The 31 year-old, who is currently the most experienced player in the team, will be the first Malaysian player to accrue more than 350 international caps; considering that he is set to play in all six games at the competition next month.

“It is very rare for a player to don the national colours 300 times. I’m delighted that I’m going to reach the 350 mark,” said Malaysian defender Azlan to the Star.

“I have been representing Malaysia for the last 13 years. It has been a long time and an honour. As long as my services are needed, I’ll continue to play.”

UniKL coach Vicky who has coached the 31 year-old before, said that for someone who has represented so many games, he is still excellent and his contribution to the game is second to none to FourthOfficial.com

“It is possible for him to break the record as he has been playing for 13 years now. He still has many years to earn it and though he may be 31 years-old, he still has many years to come; even up to 2016, provided that his body can take it” Vicky told FourthOfficial.com

“For a 31 year-old to be able to set the record, he will have to stay fit, take care of his physical condition, stay away from physical injuries and most importantly, follow orders given by the coach.”
