Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne claims that Ferrari’s recent struggles will inevitably continue in 2015, despite equipping themselves with two talented racers for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking during a press conference at the team’s Fiorano test track, Marchionne admitted that there are plenty of grounds to be covered before Ferrari can keep up with teams like Mercedes.
“We started late with the 2015 car, certain choices and strategies that were made by others and that, in retrospect, I don’t necessarily share,” said the 62-year-old Italian.
“Not to underestimate the significance or the magnitude of the task, I think Ferrari can probably get to the same place (as Mercedes) by the end of 2015. Some of the work has already started. We need to be able to emulate their success.”
“Some of the work has already started,” he said. “We need to be able to emulate their success.”
According to Marchionne, the Ferrari team is paying the price for the decisions made under the previous management when champions Mercedes outperformed Ferrari’s engine.
He then went on to claim that if Ferrari were to have two wins in 2015, it would be a success, though many would not see it the same way
“If we win four, we go to heaven,” added Marchionne.
