Chen Long had a rocky start in the first set, with both men racing to a 7-7 score line. However, the Chinese shuttler eventually found his stride; going on to take the first set 21-16.

Vittinghus fought really hard in the second game, achieving a 10 point mark before the 25 year-old Chen seized the upper hand and killed the game by defeating him by acquiring 11 straight points, winning the second set 21-10.

“I’m happy with my game. This is the first time Dubai is hosting such a big event and I’m very happy with the way it was organised,” said Chen.

“I believe that with so many Chinese and Indian people living here, badminton has a great future in Dubai and I’m looking forward to coming back.”
