Safee Sali vows to shine against Thailand

Malaysian forward Safee Sali believes that they have what it takes to shine and avenge their first leg defeat when they take on Thailand at the Bukit Jalil Stadium tomorrow.

The Malayan Tigers suffered 2-0 defeat to Thailand in the first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup final, but with 90 more minutes left on the clock, the Johor DT striker believes that there is so much more to play for; claiming that they did showcase glimpses of their capabilities in the first leg.

“In the first leg, we created a lot of chances, especially in the first half. However, towards the end of the second half, Thailand got more aggressive and the penalty definitely changed the game,” Safee said.

“That being said, we still have 90 minutes left and I see no reason as to why we can’t bounce back and seize victory.”

Despite being relatively young, the Thailand team impressed thoroughly during the first leg, with names like Charyl Chappuis and Adisak Kraisorn earning plenty of plaudits for their performances. But Safee feels that another Thai name needs to be kept at bay in order for Malaysia to triumph this weekend.

“Chanatip Songkrasin played well as he engineered Thailand’s attacking moves. Maybe we should guard him and not too give him much space tomorrow,” Safee added.
