World No.1 squash player Nicol David has progressed into the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Squash Championship after beating World No. 29 Emily Whitlock.
The seven time World Champion defeated Emily 12-10, 11-9, 11-1, to book her spot in the last eight of the competition. That being said, Nicol was extremely impressed by the performance of the 20 year-old Emily, who did exceptionally well despite recently coming back from sickness and injuries.
“She played really well for the first two games in particular. She is a great young player,” Nicol said.
Despite pushing Nicol in the first two games, Emily eventually faltered in the final set, considering that this was her fourth match in four days, allowing Nicol to clinch a comfortable 11-1 win.
“Nicol doesn’t stop coming at you, it’s relentless,” Emily said after the match.
“It’s volley, volley, volley and she has variation, it’s at such a high pace, and it’s so controlled. You feel like you’re running yourself into the ground. But I am pleased with the way I played,” she added.
In the quarters, Nicol David will take on World No.6 Camille Serme who defeated England’s Emma Beddoes 11-5, 11-13, 11-4, 11-4.
