Razif issues apology over Chong Wei statements

Razif Sidek has issued an apology and retraction in a Malay and Chinese daily over statements he had made regarding Lee Chong Wei’s doping scandal.

According to Malaysian news portal Rakyat Post, the notice said he admitted and acknowledged that his statements against Lee were false and completely without basis.

The former national badminton ace had earlier claimed that Lee had been abusing the banned substance that he tested positive for, for a long time.

He also claimed that the Badminton Association of Malaysia were aware of what Lee was doing, and that he had even hired a foreign doctor for that purpose, but no one had dared to say anything because of his status as world number one badminton champion.

Lee has since been provisionally suspended by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), following the doping incident.
