Andy Murray parts ways with Adidas

Andy Murray is set to announce a new clothing sponsor, after ending his $3 million annual deal with Adidas.

The tie-up with the sportswear giant, which has been going on since 2009, will not be renewed by mutual consent.

Meanwhile, the new deal is not expected to be anywhere near as lucrative as his Adidas contract, partly due to a poor season from the Scot this year.

Murray has struggled to regain his form again since his back surgery, and did not manage to win a title for the first nine months of the season, falling in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open and in the semifinals of the French Open.

Rumour has it Under Armour, who are known for their deal with football club Tottenham Hotspur, is a frontrunner in negotiations with Murray’s camp.

At present, their tennis involvement has been limited, although they currently kit rising American star Sloane Stephens.

Other brands that have been linked to a possible Murray partnership include New Balance and his old clothing partner, Fred Perry.
