Malaysian head coach Dollah Salleh has called for absolute focus from his players ahead of tonight’s AFF Suzuki Cup clash against Vietnam, claiming that they need to be mentally strong in order to win the game.
Vietnam secured a favourable 2-1 away win in the first leg, which puts Malaysia in a tricky position, where they need to at least score two goals, in order to secure their spot in the final. But they’ll have to do it within the confines of a stadium that will have thousands of people rooting for the home side.
“Our fighting spirit has got to be strong, and we’ve got to keep the momentum we built against Singapore and Thailand during the group stages,” Dollah said.
“We’ve got to be mentally strong as well, and when we score a goal, it should not stop us from pressing for more, just like we did against Singapore. Even though we had secured the lead, our players continue pressing an managed to even score a third goal.
“That is something we need to have against Vietnam. It’s going to be hard, but this is football. Nothing has ever been impossible in this sport, we all know that.”
Malaysia will be significant boosted by the return of two experienced players, Amri Yahya and Shukor Adan, who have both completed their one-match suspension. Kick off for the second leg is slated for 7.30 p.m. Malaysian time.
