Norshahrul eyeing Vietnam’s scalp in Suzuki Cup semis

Malaysian forward Norshahrul claims that his side will be going for the jugular when they take on Vietnam in the first leg of their AFF Suzuki Cup semis on Sunday.

The first leg will take place at the Shah Alam Stadium, and while the former Johor DT striker claims that it will be an interesting affair, he also went on to proclaim that Malaysia will be hitting the ground running from the get go.

“We need to make sure we convert our chances. The first semifinal will be an interesting match. We will be going for an early kill,” he told The Star.

Norshahrul, also fondly known as Mat Yo, was a pivotal part of the Suzuki Cup winning squad in 2010, but he hasn’t exactly been on similar form in the past 12 months. He last scored for Malaysia over a year ago, in their 1-1 draw against Bahrain, but the 28 year-old thinks that it’s only a matter of time before his scores again.

“I’ve got my touch back. I’m pretty sure I’ll score soon for the team in the Suzuki Cup. I just need to be a little more patient.

“I’ve been playing regularly with the national team now. I am happy that the coach has confidence in me. But I am disappointed because I am yet to get my name on the scoresheet in the Suzuki Cup.

“I will make my chances count,” he added.

After the first leg on Sunday, Malaysia will travel to Vietnam for the second leg, which is slated to take place on the 11th of December.
