2010 US Open Champion Graeme McDowell and recent Europe Ryder Cup captain Paul Grinley are the first big names to confirm their participation in the upcoming US$3mil (RM10.34 mil) Maybank Malaysian Open.
They will both join a stellar cast of 156 players from the Asian Tour and European Tour for the prestigious co-sanctioned championship, scheduled to take place from the 5th to the 8th of Febuary, 2015.
Chairman of Maybank Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin said: “McDowell and McGinley, fresh from recent victories and with charisma, are attracting a huge worldwide following as they display consistently high standards of sportsmanship, integrity and grit; offering fans exciting and competitive golf every time.”
World No.15 McDowell said that it has been years since he had played in the Maybank Malaysian Open and that it is great to have the chance to make a return.
“I’d like to follow in the footsteps of guys like Lee Westwood, who has won multiple tournaments around the world and winning the Maybank Malaysian Open would be a nice addition to my CV” said the 35 year-old Northern Irishman.
1997 World Cup winner Paul McGinley, who has made eight Malaysian Open appearance, said that he is excited to come back as Kuala Lumpur is one of his favourite cities around the world and that he loves the weather.
