Ex-Hull City defender joins Sabah FA

Sabah FA have swooped to secure the signature of former Hull City defender Abdoulaye Faye as a replacement for Tales dos Santos, who was deemed ineligible to play under specific FAM rules.

Faye arrived in Kota Kinabalu yesterday and has reportedly penned a one-year deal that would see him team up with compariot El Hadji Diouf, who joined Sabah from Leeds United last month.

This comes after we recently revealed Tales dos Santos ineligibility, with FAM regulations stating that any players signed from clubs within Asia, must have last played in the top division of that particular country.

Dos Santos last played for Phuket FC in the Thai second division, which effectively ruled him out of the Premier League. The Rhinos vowed to secure a replacement before the December 5th deadline for player registration, and Faye is now the candidate to spearhead their defence.

The 36 year-old has plenty of experience under his belt, having plied his trade in England since 2005, when he signed for Bolton Wanderers. Since then, Faye has went on to play for Newcastle United, Stoke City, West Ham United and more recently Hull City.

He was part of the Hull squad that battled it out in the Premier League last season, though he was eventually released at the end of the season, after failing down the pecking order within Steve Bruce’s dressing room.
