Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has called on local footballers to increase their level of discpline and engage in healthy lifestyle choices in order to maintain maximum fitness.
This comes after Safee Sali was caught smoking in Singapore during the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup recently, which led to massive fan outbursts on social media sites.
“Discipline is necessary to ensure players perform better during matches. As a footballer, it is important for one to sleep early to ensure the body has enough rest, make smart food choices, not smoke to remain fit and also think positively.” Tengku Abdullah said.
“How do players want to become champions if they sleep late or smoke. It is important to stay away from doing negative things and instead look into ways to improve one’s performance on the field.”
Safee’s actions resulted in him receiving a stern warning from FAM and Tengku Abdullah also claimed that if Safee or anyone else is caught smoking, FAM won’t hesitate to take severe disciplinary action.
Malaysia will next take on Vietnam in the semi finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup, with the first leg slated to take place on the 7th of December.
