The controversial double points system in the final formula one grand prix of the season will be scrapped from next year.
According to reports, the Formula One Commission decided to overturn the initiative by Bernie Ecclestone, which he implemented to add ‘spice’ to the season-ending race.
The agreement however, still needs to be approved by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, which meets in Doha on December 3rd.
The double points system came in play for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend, in a bid to keep the title fight alive to the finish.
The move however proved unpopular with fans, and ended up playing no role in the championship battle with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton breezing through the finish and picking up his second world title.
