Chong Wei’s B sample tests positive for banned substance

The wait is finally over. Lee Chong Wei’s B sample has been tested positive for a banned substance called dexamethasone, and is now facing the possibility of being suspended from the sport for two years.

The World No 1, flew over to Oslo to personally witness the procedures involved in conducting the test, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports even engaging a top lawyer to assist Chong Wei in all situations.

However, it now appears that even the B sample has failed the test, and the Badminton Association of Malaysia is likely to release a statement pertaining to the matter, later today.

This comes as a massive blow to the local sports scene, after a Malaysian wushu exponent failed a doping test during the Incheon Asian Games.

The initial reports emerged last month, when our sources informed that a top badminton player had failed a doping test, though an appeal had been made at that point, for the B sample to be tested as well.

Khairy Jamaluddin then went on to confirm the news, though he insisted that no identity revelations will be made until the B sample results are out. But due to the significance of the individual behind the scandal, reports started spreading like wildfire, with fans publicly voicing their displeasure at the fracas.

Now that it’s confirmed, Chong Wei stands to face a two-year ban, though the exact outcome can be altered, based on a hearing that will take place with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
