Johor Darul Takzim have confirmed that Norshahrul Idlan will not be part of their plans for the upcoming season of Malaysian football, after announcing their decision to not offer him a new contract.
Norshahrul, fondly known as Mat Yo, has struggled for game time with the Southern Tigers this season, with Jorge Diaz and Luciano Figueroa ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Malaysian international has also been struggling for form all season long, and it now appears that he will be plying his trade elsewhere, come 2015.
“Coaches and the technical team made the decision to let him go in order to gain more playing time, and the decision was made during the early stages of the Malaysia Cup as part of our plans for the 2015 seasons.” the club said via their official Facebook page.
Mat Yo has had a difficult few days, after his miss during the penalty shoot-out of the Malaysia Cup final allowed Pahang to seize victory. Several sections of the fans have used him as a scapegoat, though the club publicly declared its support for Mat Yo, claiming that fans should be grateful with his contributions.
“We also urge all fans not to give Mat Yo a hard time for missing the penalty. We should be grateful for all that he has done for us in the past two years. Mat Yo is a fantastic player and a good man inside and outside the pitch, and we wish him all the very best for his career.”
