Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Ministry has announced the appointment of former Danish great, Morten Frost Hansen, to revive the badminton scene in Malaysia.
The former All-England men’s singles champion will take on the role of National Technical Director for the Badminton Association of Malaysia, beginning March next year.
Frost will be in charge of planning and coordinating programmes from the development to the elite level, as well as manage the coaches at the national centre. He will also be expected to produce Olympic Games and world champions, in a bid to increase Malaysia’s pool of talent for the sport.
This will mark his second stint with BAM, having been with them for 3 and a half years from 1997-2000 as its National Coaching Director.
Meanwhile, BAM says it hopes Frost’s return would help with their aim of becoming one of the top three badminton nations by 2020.
According to a local Malaysian daily, the last time BAM had tried to hire Frost, it was revealed that his asking price was RM100,000 a month.
