English Premier League Wrap Up

West Ham United produced the upset of the weekend as they secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Upton Park. Morgan Amalfitano placed them ahead on the 21st minute mark, before Mamadou Sakho doubled it on the 70th minute mark. City piled on the pressure and reduced the deficit through David Silva in the last 10 minutes, but the Hammers held on for a comprehensive victory.

Meanwhile, Arsenal secured a routine 2-0 win over Sunderland, courtesy of Alexis Sanchez’ stellar performance. He initially fired Arsenal ahead after an error from Vito Mannone, and netted the Gunners’ second goal in injury time, to secure an excellent victory, despite Sunderland giving it their best shot on the day.

Liverpool continued their struggle, as they failed to find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw with Hull City. Mario Balotelli was given a starting position from the get go but the former AC Milan forward extended his bad run of form by another game.

Ronald Koeman’s excellent start to life at the St. Mary’s continued as Southampton clinched a pivotal 1-0 victory over Stoke City. The fourth consecutive victory was secured by Sadio Mane’s solitary striker on the day, though the Saints also had a plethora of other opportunities to increase their lead, only to be denied by the defence of Stoke.

West Brom completed a sensational comeback in injury time, to secure a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in a hugely entertaining affair. Breda Hangeland placed Palace ahead, before Jedinak’s penalty allowed them to head into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead. But the Baggies came back in the second half, firing on all cylinders. Victor Anichebe reduced the deficit early on in the second half, before Saido Berahino’s injury time spot kick completed an amazing turnaround.

Wilfred Bony was the star of the day, as he helped Swansea manoeuver past Leicester City with a 2-0 win. The Ivorian forward scored one in each half, as Swansea continued their impressive run of form. Leicester though, will be incredibly frustrated with their performance in the game, failing to test the Swansea defence effectively.
